Client:
Build Flow - A construction tech startup
Project Type:
Desktop B2B SaaS platform
Team:
Product Manager, UX Designer, Engineers
Background
Construction projects involve multiple stakeholders — contractors, site managers, and office administrators — each needing different tools to track processes.
Our client wanted to build a digital tool that would streamline project setup, simplify task and resource tracking, and provide clarity across all project stages.
My Role:
UX designer - Research, Concept, Wireframes, Prototyping, Testing, Design System

Problem
Product Goals & Values
Most small-to-mid-size companies still rely on spreadsheets, messaging apps, and paper records. This creates confusion, delays, and poor oversight.
-
Create a centralized platform to oversee the full construction cycle (MVP)
-
Allow contractors and project managers to collaborate in real-time
-
Simplify task assignment, resource allocation, and status updates
-
Provide an accessible and intuitive interface for both field and office workers
-
Make the onboarding of new contractors easy and self-managed
User Research
To better understand real-world needs, we conducted interviews with site managers, contractors, architects, and office admins. This helped us identify different user roles and their pain points.

Persona 1:
Eli, 40,
Site Manager
-
Quick access to updated blueprints and schedules
-
Real-time overview of tasks on-site
-
An easy way to assign jobs to available workers
Pain Points:
-
Lack of time to prepare extra materials
-
Varying digital skills and unfamiliarity with complex interfaces
-
Frustration when tech tools don’t align with curriculum goals
-
Difficulty maintaining student interest in abstract topics
Needs:

Persona 2:
Dana, 38,
Project Coordinator
Needs:
-
Full visibility across all project stages
-
Smooth communication
-
Clear reporting tools for stakeholders
Pain Points:
-
Multiple disconnected tools for tracking budgets, resources, and people
-
Manual data entry wastes time and causes errors
-
No system to verify who completed what and when

Persona 3:
Amir, 30,
Contractor
Needs:
-
Transparent task assignments and deadlines
-
Easy onboarding into new projects
-
Simple access to site-specific documentation
Pain Points:
-
Often unclear who to report to
confusing task lists or last-minute changes -
No way to log hours or flag issues directly
Market Research
We explored established platforms to study how they structure tasks, user roles, and data hierarchies. These tools inspired our approach to modularity and visual clarity.

We analyzed construction-related platforms available at the time, such as:
Concept

We proposed a clear and easy-to-use platform that guides users through each step of the construction process, gives each team member the tools they need, keeps all documents and tasks in one place, and shows project progress at a glance.
Wireframes & Prototyping
To validate our concept, we created a series of wireframes that mapped out key flows for planners, engineers, and supervisors. These helped us visualize the dashboard structure, task boards, resource timelines, and reporting modules before moving to high-fidelity design.

New Project Setup
The screen shows the first of four steps in creating a new project. Users can upload data via an XLS file, fill out forms manually, or use a smart assistant (chatbot) to help input information.

Materials Management
This screen allows users to view, sort, and filter project materials, with options for quick actions and additional operations through a contextual menu. A grid view enhances clarity and usability.

Gantt Chart
Designed for real-time project tracking, this screen offers flexible functionality to monitor tasks, timelines, and dependencies in a visual and interactive format.

Drawing Editor
A built-in graphic editor provides essential tools for creating and editing technical drawings directly within the platform, eliminating the need for external software.
Conclusion & Impact
We proposed a clear, role-based desktop solution that aligns with real-world construction workflows. By simplifying scheduling and document management, we addressed key user frustrations. Early feedback confirmed the concept’s value.
